Poem by Meir Z. Ribalow

The introductory poem

The dark river twists and turns,
Its swirling seductive waters deeper
than they appear to be. The forest,
thick with shadows, hides strange
spirits, wild creatures who stalk
us even as they hunt each other.

You approach the hidden fortress,
wondering what awaits inside,
what kind of magic, what
sort of destiny. An owl hoots
nearby. The moon is eclipsed.
You stand at gate.
You enter.
